Liverpool were rocked on Tuesday afternoon by the news that Sadio Mane has sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty.
The 25-year-old, who picked up the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August following an excellent start to the 2017-18 campaign, was subbed off in the 89th minute of Senegal’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.
Mane now faces six weeks on the sidelines and will several huge fixtures, including the visit of Manchester United this weekend and the trip to Wembley to face Tottenham on October 22.
Liverpool fans on social media have been cursing the fact that Mane, who joined the Reds from Southampton in June 2016, was injured while on international duty.
And now Jamie Carragher has reacted to the news on Twitter.
Carragher reacts to the Mane injury news
Summing up the thoughts of his fellow Liverpool supporters, the retired defender has voiced his anger over the manner in which Mane sustained his injury.
“FFS…….” Carragher tweeted. “International football at its best!!!!!”
Check out those exclamation marks. Carra, it’s safe to say, is not a happy bunny.
Lad reminds Carragher about Oxlade-Chamberlain
The most popular reply came from a lad reminding Carragher that Liverpool splashed out £40 million on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer.
The England winger, however, has endured a disastrous start to his career at Anfield.
He will now be under even more pressure to deliver a performance against Jose Mourinho’s side on Saturday afternoon.
