Red Bull duo Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are facing the prospect of starting at the back of the grid in one of the last four races of the 2017 Formula One season.

This comes after using their fifth new power unit of the season, with the limit set to four.

The incident that led to the penalty stems from the Italian Grand Prix.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull motor sport adviser and among other things, is never short of a word or two.

Just last week the Austrian lambasted Mercedes-AMG and Ferrari over their youth development programs, whilst lauding the Red Bull chassis as the best on the grid.

This week, the 74-year-old told Auto Motor und Sport that the team would do another engine change despite knowing it will mean starting at the back.

"We still have an engine change with both cars,” the Austrian said.

“That means starting from far back. We will take the motors at different races so that we are at least with one car at the front."

Sounds like a good plan, but what about the future of their two drivers?

This week, team boss Christian Horner seemed to contradict Marko when asked about the future of both drivers.

The 74-year-old said that keeping Verstappen out of Mercedes-AMG’s clutches was a top priority, whilst Australian Daniel Ricciardo was “already on the market”, according to reports from www.news.com.au.

However, Horner told Motorsport.com that Red Bull has every intention of keeping both of their drivers.

"He's technically out of contract at the end of 2018 because he will have completed a five-year contract.

"But what is absolutely clear is that it's our intention to retain both of our drivers, I would say until 2020."

What do you think, is Daniel Ricciardo potentially going to join Fernando Alonso as a driver without a drive next season?
