Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher’s partnership is part of the reason why so many football fans tune in to Sky Sports. As frequent trophy winners at Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, few are better placed to disperse their knowledge of the beautiful game. And it’s not just the pair’s expertise that makes them so enjoyable to watch but their chemistry, too. Both can take just as much as they deliver and watching them is just like watching two football fans debating in the pub at times. The Telegraph have used their partnership to create a funny video in which Carragher guesses whether comments made from former professionals and fans on Twitter were said about him or Neville.Carragher was correct when he said it was Neville who was once called “the most annoying player in world football” by Piers Morgan.“Gary Neville. 100 percent,” the former Liverpool defender says. “Has to be.“Yeah. No one could ever say that about me. It has to be him.”

The best defender in Premier League history

The best moment in the video comes when Carragher has to guess whether it was himself or Neville who was once labelled “the best defender in Premier League history, fact”.

“Now, Gary won a lot more than me in the Premier League,” Carragher explains.

“The fact that it says fact at the end, that was something Rafa Benitez was famous for, our Liverpool manager.

“And it may be something that gets attacked to Liverpool players now. I’m gonna go for myself.”

Carragher's reaction was comical

He was wrong. Rio Ferdinand called Neville the best defender in Premier League history.

And Carragher’s reaction to finding that out was priceless.

“Gary Neville best defender in Premier League history?!” he wonders.

“He wasn’t even the best defender in his own house!”

Brilliant. Bet Phil Neville loved that.

Big statement from Ferdinand

That’s a huge comment by Ferdinand, by the way.

Neville won the Premier League eight times during his Man United career, adding two Champions League trophies along the way.

He is widely viewed as the best right-back to play in the English top flight but the title of the Premier League’s best ever defender is usually reserved for a centre-back.

Nemanja Vidic perhaps, or Chelsea legend John Terry.

Although Ferdinand choosing Terry would have been a bigger surprise than him picking Neville given their history.
