Jurgen Klopp's men, who enjoyed 62% possession, looked the most likely scorers, producing 19 shots, but they found the world-class David de Gea in superb form.
Like most fans, Gary Lineker was banking on Liverpool vs. Man Utd to produce goals, highlights and talking points, and he took to Twitter after the goalless draw to share his thoughts.

Lineker, known for giving his honest opinions on Twitter, was probably starting to prepare for BBC's latest Match of the Day programme whilst proceedings took place at Anfield.
Before the game, Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho insisted that his side were going to Merseyside for all three points, yet they registered just one shot on target.
Romelu Lukaku found himself on the periphery of a big match yet again, and Mourinho replaced Ashley Young with centre-back Victor Lindelof in stoppage time to hold on to a point.
Lineker posts brilliant tweet after 0-0 draw
Liverpool were forced to settle for a draw, and once the underwhelming spectacle had finished, Lineker tweeted something which is already spreading like wildfire.
The ex-England striker was getting his followers to tune in to tonight's Match of the Day, only to then question whether or not Liverpool and United's clash actually produced anything worth watching.
As you can see above, the majority of fans were in agreement with Lineker's take on the goalless draw, with his tweet racking up thousands of both 'retweets' and 'likes'.
Next up for Liverpool and Man United, the two most successful clubs in English football history, are mid-week Champions League trips to Maribor and Benfica respectively.
