Gonzalo Higuain is one of the finest finishers in world football at the moment, there's no two ways about it.

Having clawed his way through the ranks at Real Madrid and learnt amongst the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, the Argentine is now a revered figure in Italian football.

Three remarkably successful seasons with Napoli elevated his goal scoring figures to a whole new plain, before earning himself a monster €90 million move to Juventus last year.

It's fair to say 32 goals in 55 appearances alongside Paulo Dybala, as well as a Champions League final appearance, is a pretty enviable return for a debut season.

At the moment, however, Higuain is suffering a classic case of second season syndrome.

His strike partner - Dybala - explained: “It’s not a great period for [Higuain] because, for a striker, clearly, it’s not nice when you don’t score.

“He just needs to relax and the goal will come when he least expects it. I was struggling to score at the start of last season, too, but as soon as you break the ice, you keep on going.”

A few absences from the starting XI and showing Barcelona fans the middle finger later, and Higuain seems to be back to his polished best.

The Argentine has scored twice, assisted once and grabbed a Man of the Match award in his last three games for the Old Lady.

However, Saturday's visit of Lazio showed that Higuain hasn't exactly got luck on his side.

Douglas Costa had just propelled Juventus into a first-half lead when Higuain had a brilliant opportunity to double the home advantage.

Lazio 'keeper Thomas Strakosha greeted a back pass with a first touch so bad that it nearly dribbled into his own net with Higuain proceeding to close him down. The 29-year-old arrived just in time to deflect the clearance and from just two-yards out, a goal seemed guaranteed.

When it's not your day, it's not your day.

Somehow, Higuain managed to divert the clearance onto the cross bar and, while he came crashing into the net, the ball simply dropped into Strakosha's hands like nothing had happened.

It proved the wake-up call Lazio needed too with their run-in with lady luck inspiring a comeback at the home of the champions.

At the time of writing, two goals from Ciro Immobile sees the Rome-based side leading 2-1 and Higuain kicking himself once again.
