George Groves set up a fight with Chris Eubank Jr in the semi-final of the
Groves stopped Jamie Cox in the fourth round of their bout at Wembley Arena, right in front of Eubank Jr.
The semi-final is expected to take place in January or February at Craven Cottage. It promises to be an enthralling affair.
It didn’t take long for the trash-talking to begin. After Groves’ win on Saturday, Eubank Jr told iFL TV that the 29-year-old will get “annihilated”.
“A knockout is polite with what’s going to happen to George Groves,” Eubank Jr, who beat Avni Yildrim last month, said.
“He’s going to get annihilated.”
Groves responded to Eubank Jr's comments
Groves responded by saying Eubank Jr is yet to face anyone at his level.
“I haven’t watched Eubank’s last fight. I saw the [Arthur] Abraham fight - I was ringside - I wasn’t really that impressed, to be honest,” the WBA (Super) World super-middleweight told the same YouTube channel.
“[Eubank Jr] hasn’t boxed anyone at my level. He hasn’t boxed anyone who’s going to come in and give a great account of himself.”
Eubank Jr has tweeted about Groves matchup
The boxers met inside the ring after the fight and Eubank Jr has taken to Twitter to show he’s already looking forward to the bout.
Eubank Jr posted an image of himself face-to-face with Groves, simply writing: “Here we go”.
Bellew: The winner will lose to Callum Smith
British heavyweight Tony Bellew expressed his excitement for Groves v Eubank Jr, although he caused a stir on Twitter when he said the winner will lose to Callum Smith in the final.
Bellew wrote: “#GrovesEubank is a great fight! Styles will gel perfectly! I expect GG to try an box at range! Can he b disciplined/keep him off for the 12?
“Everyone talking about #GrovesEubank and asking me who wins. It doesn’t really matter cos the winner will eventually lose to Callum Smith 👊,”
Fellow Brit Smith has already booked his place in the semi-final. He will take on the winner of the clash between Germany’s Juergen Braehmer and American Rob Brant.
