Manchester City genuinely look unstoppable at the moment.

Twenty-nine goals in their opening eight games is not only unbelievable, but a Premier League record it turns out.

They were at their majestic best against Stoke City on Saturday, firing seven past the Potters in an emphatic 7-2 victory at the Etihad.

Gabriel Jesus grabbed a brace, while Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Fernandinho, David Silva and Bernardo Silva all got themselves on the scoresheet.

More incredible still is that City were without Sergio Aguero, who was in deadly goalscoring form before his car crash in Amsterdam.

Asked why his side have made such an impressive start to the 2017/18 season, manager Pep Guardiola said they've simply learned from their mistakes.

"With almost the same players, what changed?," said Guardiola. "Basically we know each other more, I know my players much more.

"I know the competition more and I know even more how to damage opposition teams. That's the way we want to play. We play like this and score a lot of goals."

Guardiola arrived in Manchester last year with a philosophy to play beautiful, possession-based football, which his players have now mastered.

Sterling's goal against Stoke perfectly demonstrated just how good City are at keeping the ball in tight areas. They started from the back and literally passed their way to scoring.

In the video below, Nicolas Otamendi takes a huge risk with a back heel to spark a 15-pass move that eventually ends up with Sterling shooting at an open goal. Check it out.

CITY TEAR STOKE APART

Now that's what you call 'The Guardiola Effect'. City never waste possession, even when they're under pressure, and against Stoke their bravery paid off.

Kevin De Bruyne was inevitably the architect behind the move, dropping deep and waiting for the perfect moment to break.

He also played the killer ball that split open Stoke's defence for Sane to square to Sterling, who made no mistake.

City were most football fans' favourites for the title before the season started and they're showing exactly why that was the case.
