Greg Rusedski reveals two players that he believes Roger Federer fears

2017 ATP 1000 Shanghai Rolex Masters - Day 8

Roger Federer. A much established household name in the sport of tennis.

Over 2017, the Swiss has seen major victories in Australia, London, and yesterday afternoon, in Shanghai.

When it comes to us placing our bets, it is more often than not that Federer has our backing.

It is often thought that the man fears nobody in this run of form.

However, one pundit disagrees.

Greg Rusedski, a pundit for Sky Sports, has revealed two players that the Swiss champ fears, with Rafael Nadal not being mentioned.

The Grand Slam victor beat his Spanish nemesis in just over one hour to claim the title yesterday, and the Brit pundit doesn't believe he has the huge weapons anymore to beat Federer.

“How do you beat Roger Federer? You have to have some huge weapons like Del Porto,” said Rusedski.

Federer has just claimed his fifth victory over Rafal Nadal. However, Rusedski does not believe that the Spaniard has the ability to put pressure on the Wimbledon champion.

“You have to be able to serve huge and you have to have something that makes a hole through Roger’s movement and not allow him to take the ball that early.

“That’s why Juan Martin Del Porto was able to beat him at the US Open when he has a back problem.

“That’s why he’s a little bit scared of that sort of player,” said pundit Rusedski.

Not only does he feel that Del Porto can beat the world number two, he reckons Stan Wawrinka could cause severe problems for him too.

“There are two guys on the tour that can do that to Roger Federer - Stan Wawrinka and Juan Mrtin Del Porto.

“Rafa has got to figure out something tactically because he can’t just brutally go through him anymore and break down that backhand side.

“It’s back to the drawing board for Rafa.”

After all, this is the World Number One that is being talked about here. Nadal still holds the top spot proud, however, it must be said that Federer is coming on strong in 2017.
