Tranmere have cancelled the contract of Michael Ricketts by mutual consent.
The former England striker initially joined the League One outfit on a one-year deal back in August, but has failed to nail down a regular place at Prenton Park. Ricketts has made just eight starts for the club and has not been in Rovers' starting line-up since November.
Manager Les Parry said: "Michael's chances of starting matches here have been restricted by the form of Ian Thomas-Moore, Craig Curran, Terry Gornell and Chris Shuker."
Parry added: "At this stage of his career Michael felt that he needed to play regular first team football so we've decided to give him the chance to join another club where he will get an opportunity to play.
"During his time at the Club Michael has been a valuable member of the squad and has conducted himself professionally at all times. I wish him all the best for the rest of his career."
