News that injury had forced Kubrat Pulev to pull out of the fight against Anthony Joshua later this month came as a huge blow to boxing fans.
Pulev sustained a shoulder injury in sparring and fans who’d purchased tickets for the event at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on October 28 were understandably disappointed.
Fortunately, though, promoter Eddie Hearn already had a replacement lined up in the form of Carlos Takam.
"I received a call from Kalle Sauerland late afternoon to inform me that Pulev had injured his shoulder and maybe ruled out of the fight - this was later confirmed by his doctor," Hearn was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "IBF rules state that the mandatory will go to the next fighter in line which is Carlos Takam.
"When the Pulev fight was announced I made a deal with Takam's team to begin camp and be on standby for this fight.
"When I called them (on Monday evening) they were overjoyed and good to go.
"It's a difficult position for AJ having prepared meticulously for the style and height of Pulev, he now faces a completely different style and challenge in Takam - this hasn't happened in his career before but he is ready for all comers on October 28."
What boxing fans have been tweeting Eddie Hearn
Takam, a Cameroonian-French boxer who defeated Croatia’s Ivica Bacurin in his last fight back in June, boasts a reasonably impressive record - 35 wins, three defeats and one draw - but this will be his first full heavyweight title fight.
And a significant number of boxing fans who have shelled out money for tickets, travel and accommodation - or access to watch the fight at home on pay-per-view - have all been sending the same message to Hearn on Twitter.
Underwhelmed by the idea of watching Joshua comfortably defeat Takam, Hearn has been inundated with refund requests.
Here are just some of the tweets Hearn has received over the past 24 hours…
Joshua is doing his best to sell the fight
Joshua, however, is doing his best to sell the fight.
The 28-year-old conducted interviews with talkSPORT and Sky Sports earlier today and told reporters “this is Carlos Takam’s chance to shock the world”.
Judging by the replies to this video, however, it seems boxing fans are convinced the outcome of the fight is a foregone conclusion.
