Stalemate at Vale Park: Match Review

Port Vale were unable to break through Macclesfield's massed ranks as the visitors dug deep to take a hard-earned point in goalless draw.

The hosts dominated the first-half with Vale piling forward and the visitors defending for their lives.

Craig Davies, making his full debut for Vale on loan from Brighton, was thwarted on several occasions by busy Macclesfield `keeper Jon Brain.

And former Vale stopper Brain also made a fine save to his left to keep out a 20-yard effort from Marc Richards.

Macclesfield made a better fist of it at the start of the second-half with Ricky Sappleton and Lee Bell finally providing a threat.

But Davies was inches away from opening the scoring in the 58th minute when he beat Nat Brown with a terrific piece of skill and then cracked a shot against the bar.

Neither side seriously threatened a breakthrough after that, with the visitors retreating back into their shell and Vale unable to find a way through.
