Martin on song for Canaries

Striker Chris Martin celebrated signing a new three-year contract by firing 10-man Norwich to the top of the Coca-Cola League One table with a 1-0 win over Brentford.

The Canaries went into the match three points behind Leeds, who were in FA Cup action against Tottenham Hotspur.

After last week's 5-0 drubbing of Colchester, Paul Lambert's side started confidently but they soon found themselves in trouble when Grant Holt was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Tommy Smith.

That did not seem to deter the home side though as they piled on the pressure, and they got their reward when 21-year-old Martin smashed home Oli Johnson's pass in the second half.

Carl Cort had a golden chance to steal a draw for Brentford at the death but he headed straight at Fraser Forster from close range.

Darryl Duffy came back to haunt his old club Hartlepool by scoring the winner for Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Chris Lines' header put Paul Trollope's side ahead before Duffy, who had a loan spell at Victoria Park in 2006, sealed the win after 66 minutes with a cool finish inside the area.
