He may have won 14 individual career titles in a distinguished career spanning 20 years, but does golf need Tiger Woods back?

According to English golfer Justin Rose, no.

Speaking to Sky Sports Golf, the 37-year-old said that the sport was over the cult of Tiger Woods and is in a healthy place without him.

"I think golf has found itself in a really healthy spot without Tiger at the moment," said the Englishman.

"So many young players have come through and filled the void. I think to have him back is just a bonus, but I don't think golf is desperate for him back.

"It's almost gone past the point of thinking 'we all really want to see Tiger win 18 majors.

"Everyone just wants to see a healthy Tiger Woods. I think that we want him back, just because of what's he's meant to the sport for the last 20 years."

Be that as it may, Woods was and arguably still is the biggest name in golf, and that is damning.

Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the young golfers that immediately jump out, but do they have the same draw as Tiger? No. Well, at least not yet.

Rose has also spoken about being denied a second major title after losing out to Spaniard Sergio Garcia in the play-off of the Masters in April.

"It was great to see him breakthrough and win his first Major -- but unfortunately it was against me.

"It'll be fun to have us both in the same field in Hong Kong.

"Sergio and I, we've joked all year long, had some fun with it all year long, so it will be a continuation of that."

For most golf fans, they will love to see Woods back on the course, but it seems the players, according to Rose, don't see it as a big problem if he doesn't come back.
