Crystal Palace have been boosted by the news defender Claude Davis' injury is not as bad as first feared.

The big centre-half needed lengthy treatment before being stretchered off after falling heavily on his neck in an aerial challenge during Saturday's 2-2 FA Cup draw at Wolves.

Palace assistant boss Mick Jones said: "He is a lot better than anticipated. Obviously he took a nasty knock and when you hit the deck like he did there is a lot of weight that goes down on the shoulder and neck.

"He suffered an injury a bit like whiplash, and he is going to see a specialist in London."
