Football fans were all looking forward to the return of the Premier League after the international break. And there was the perfect fixture to welcome back domestic football - Liverpool vs Manchester United. But those that were hoping for a pulsating match full of action and goals, were sadly mistaken. That’s because Jose Mourinho decided to park the bus and played for a bore draw. After spending around £300 million in the past two summers, there’s a belief that this United side shouldn’t be playing for draws against their arch-rivals.Even Jurgen Klopp was a little bit surprised by the way United played the game - insisted he wouldn’t be allowed to do the same at Liverpool."For sure you could not play this way at Liverpool, but it's OK for Manchester United," he told Sky Sports.“Manchester United came here for a point and got it. We wanted three points and didn’t get it.”A few days later and United would have been hoping to silence all the critics in their Champions League tie against Benfica. That didn’t quite happen, though. The first-half was another drab affair as Mourinho’s side went in at half-time at 0-0.But the club’s Twitter account did their very best to make the match sound a little bit excited.

Man Utd's tweet

At the interval, they wrote: “HT: Benfica 0 #MUFC 0. It's goalless at the break after a lively first half in Lisbon. #UCL.”

Lively!?

Man Utd fans react

Well, United fans were having none of it. They couldn’t quite believe what they had read after sitting through an incredibly dull first-half. Check out the reaction:

Things got slightly better for United in the second-half.

They got the all important three points thanks to Marcus Rashford’s crazy goal.

The youngster swung in a free-kick from the left touchline which 18-year-old ‘keeper Mile Svilar failed to stop crossing the line. It was a bizarre goal and one which summed up the disappointing performance from the Red Devils.

But it’s three wins from three in the Champions League from Mourinho’s side and they have one foot in the last-16.

While they haven’t always been “lively,” United have been very effective so far this season.
