Manchester United fans are still reeling this morning after watching their side slump to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat away to Huddersfield Town. This was a fixture Jose Mourinho’s side were expected to win comfortably and an opportunity to get back to winning ways in the Premier League following last weekend’s dull 0-0 draw at Anfield. However, United left themselves with a mountain to climb in the second half after conceding two goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre before half-time.Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back for the Red Devils with 12 minutes of normal time remaining but the English giants were unable to find an equaliser before referee Lee Mason blew the final whistle.Mourinho had made all three of his substitutions by the start of the season half. The hapless Victor Lindelof replaced the injured Phil Jones midway through the opening 45 minutes while Anthony Martial and Juan Mata were withdrawn for Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Martial had an afternoon to forget

It was Mata’s mistake that led to Huddersfield’s opening goal, while Martial also had an afternoon to forget.

The French forward, for whatever reason, lacked focus and was somewhat fortunate to avoid a second yellow card.

Martial, on only his third Premier League start of the campaign, had wasted his opportunity to convince Mourinho that he should be starting matches week in, week out.

Man Utd fans are tweeting the same thing about Martial

The 21-year-old has scored all three of his league goals this season after coming off the bench - against West Ham, Swansea City and Everton - and United fans have been tweeting the same thing about the France international.

Are Man Utd fans right about Martial?

Do they have a point?

It’s hard to argue when you look at Martial’s stats this season; his best performances in the Premier League have come from the subs’ bench.

United fans shouldn't forget his performance v CSKA

However, fans shouldn’t ignore the fact that his standout performance from the 2017-18 season so far came against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League last month.

Martial started that match and was hailed by supporters after scoring one goal and providing two assists in United’s emphatic 4-1 victory.
