Kyle Shanahan on what it would take to trade Joe Staley away

The San Francisco 49'ers are one of the worst teams in the National Football League (NFL), as the team that was in the Super Bowl just a few years ago has now started off the 2017 season 0-7.

With the trade deadline in the NFL approaching next week it's not crazy to think that San Francisco is looking to make some moves to better their chances for the season. It's a rarity that NFL teams make any major moves that would affect their salary cap at this point in the season, but it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

One such option the 49'ers could look at is trading away 33-year-old star left tackle Joe Staley. Staley is one of the best left tackles in the NFL and could be a huge asset to teams; especially after fellow star tackles around the league such as Jason Peters have gone down with injuries.

Wednesday 49'ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the possibility of trading away his star offensive lineman, and while noting that Staley is a guy that he 'definitely' wants to keep around, he did admit that he would have to listen to any big offers from another team if the opportunity presented itself (quotes via

"Joe is a guy that I definitely want here and definitely a guy I wouldn't want to lose by any means," Shanahan said, via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

"I'm not going to sit here -- if anybody called for any one of our players, it's not like you just hang up the phone. If people want to offer the world, you've always got to listen.

"You've got to always try to think what's going to help your team and make your team better."

If Staley does get traded away before the deadline it would certainly be a shocking move, but if it happens it would be interesting to see what teams are willing to give up for the former pro bowler.

What are your thoughts on Shanahan saying that he'd have to listen to a big offer if a team was interested in Staley? Do you think it would be a mistake for San Francisco to let one of their best players go at this point in the season? And how much do you think the 49'ers could actually get for their star left tackle? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
