The end of 2018 could see a number of drivers out of contract, including Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, who has expressed his plans for the future and his dream teammates if he chooses not to renew his contract with Red Bull.
The Australian is earning a solid reputation in Formula One, with many people tipping him to complete a big-money move sooner rather than later.
Although a lot of the talk is about his current teammate Max Verstappen, Ricciardo is also attracting interest from the likes of Mercedes.
“I've said for a long time, Alonso or Lewis would be the guys I'd love to see myself against," Ricciardo told ESPN.
He added: “Alonso's getting towards the tail of his career so Lewis at the moment is more desirable for me to go up against. So I would like that."
Hamilton, three-time world champion who drives for Mercedes, has since had his say on the Australian’s comments.
“Daniel is a fantastic driver, it would be a privilege to race against him," he said per Motorsport.
The Briton continued: “He’s a great character, he always brings a lot of positivity within his team, I think it’s interesting, I think it’s cool. I take the compliment."
Although, Hamilton has expressed he understands Ricciardo’s interest in racing against him in the same team, he has advised beating his current teammate at Red Bull first.
Verstappen has agreed a new contract with the former world champions until 2020, and Hamilton has given some advice to Ricciardo regarding that relationship.
“You look at Daniel, he’s got a great driver in his teammate and to be honest, he has got to really work to outperform him first.
”You look at Daniel, he’s got a great driver in his team-mate [Verstappen] and to be honest, he has got to really work to outperform him first.“
Both Hamilton and Ricciardo are out of contract at the end of 2018, and only time will tell who will be the rivals new teammates.
