FIFA fans were stunned last month after discovering Daniel Sturridge’s pace rating on the latest version of EA Sports’ hugely successful video game franchise.
The Liverpool and England striker, despite his injury problems, was still a machine on FIFA 17 with 81 for dribbling, 83 for shooting and 89 for pace.
However, his stats have been decreased on FIFA 18 - significantly in some areas - after scoring just seven goals in 27 appearances for Liverpool last season.
His overall rating is now 82 while his passing is down to 69. However, it’s his pace rating which raised the eyebrows of, well, just about everybody.
Sturridge, who only turned 28 in September, now has 76 for pace, Seventy-six! That’s down a massive 13 points from last year. Madness.
Sturridge discovers his FIFA 18 pace rating
Now, considering FIFA 18’s been out for a month, you would assume Sturridge has been told about his pace rating by now - and mocked about it inside the dressing room at Anfield.
But he seemed genuinely surprised - not to mention outraged - to hear about it in a new video uploaded to YouTube by FATV.
During a ‘roommates’ feature with his former Liverpool teammate Raheem Sterling, Sturridge was incorrectly informed that he now has 79 for pace.
“79?” he said, looking completely miffed. “Don’t disrespect my pace like that, bro, I’m minimum eighty…”
He then found out that there’d been a mistake. He was actually rated 76 for pace and not 79. Ouch.
Both Sturridge and Sterling were in complete disbelief.
“They’re basically saying he’s slow, then,” Sterling said.
Sturridge continued: “I’m one of the fastest strikers in the Premier League.”
“If not *the* fastest,” Sterling added.
“Whoever put 76 down there… It’s a disrespect to my credibility, it’s a disrespect to my integrity, to my name,” Sturridge concluded. “Whoever works at FIFA, they need firing. They need firing - seriously.”
