Liverpool didn't exactly cover themselves in glory last week.

Having endured a difficult spell in the Premier League since the first international break, the Reds were taught a footballing lesson at Wembley Stadium as Tottenham ran out 4-1 victors.

Despite Mohamed Salah offering the visitors hope in the first-half, goals from Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son as well as brace from Harry Kane killed off the affair.

What made the defeat all the more painful was the abundance of individual errors that accommodated such an unflattering scoreline.

Simon Mignolet was curiously positioned for Kane's first goal before flapping desperately at the second.

Meanwhile, Joel Matip didn't exactly cover himself in much glory either for the third goal with a terrible attempt at a headed clearance.

Nobody came in for as much stick as Dejan Lovren, though. The Croatian was spectacularly substituted just 30 minutes into the game after one of the most nightmarish individual showings you're likely to see.

Naturally then, Jurgen Klopp's decision to return Lovren to the starting XI immediately for the visit of Huddersfield Town wasn't going to fill Liverpool fans with much confidence.

At the last minute, however, Lovren was taken out of the squad after pulling up in the warm-up. To make things all the more uncanny, it was the much loved Ben Woodburn who slotted onto the bench as a result.

It was Ragnar Klavan given the start ahead of Lovren, mind.

You couldn't write it and Kopites couldn't believe it:

It's not exactly ideal when fans are celebrating the injury of one of their own but after that performance against Tottenham, it's justifiable banter.
