Girona 2-1 Real Madrid - who saw that coming?

Girona’s incredible victory over Zinedine Zidane’s side means Madrid are now eight points behind Barcelona after just 10 matches.

While it’s too early to say that the La Liga title race is over, it will now take a minor miracle for Madrid to overhaul Barca to retain the league trophy.

It was going so well for Zidane’s side as well.

After Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot was fumbled, Isco followed up to give the away side a 12th-minute lead.

But Girona deserved more and could consider themselves unfortunate to be heading into the break 1-0 down after missing some glorious chances.

But in the second-half, they got their rewards.

In the space of four-minutes, Girona turned the match on its head.

Former Middlesbrough striker Christian Stuani equalised in the 54 minute while Portu made it 2-1 - although he appeared to be in an offside position.

Girona v Real Madrid - La Liga

The 13,000 supporters inside the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi went mental and Madrid were left shellshocked.

And it was Ronaldo’s face that said it all.

After Girona’s second goal found the back of the net, the camera panned to Ronaldo’s face as the home side were celebrating.

And Ronaldo - who was voted FIFA’s The Best Player earlier this week - looked absolutely fuming.

And it’s fair to say the non-Real Madrid fans on Twitter found it pretty hilarious.

Look at their reaction:

Madrid only have a few days to brush themselves off before their trip to Wembley to face Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ronaldo and co. will need to improve their performance dramatically if they're to achieve a positive result.
