Although WWE Survivor Series is a few weeks away, WWE is gearing up for their next PPV event.

WWE has started to release lineups for SmackDown live events in December, which is an indication of what to expect to be featured at the Clash of the Champions PPV.

It’s been reported that AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title is planned for the upcoming PPV event so for those who want to see Mahal’s reign as WWE Champion come to an end, you are out of luck.

Mahal’s first stint with WWE was from 2010 - 2014 where he was used as a lower card talent or an enhancement talent. To say that one day in the future he would be the face of the sports entertainment company by being the WWE Champion would have been something that no one could have thought about. In his first stint, Mahal had a short-lived alliance with his storyline brother-in-law, The Great Khali.

After being released from WWE in the summer of 2014, he returned to the promotion two years later. Fans picked up on Mahal improving his body condition.

This led to him receiving a big push by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. He picked up a win over Randy Orton at Backlash in May 2017 for the WWE Championship, which made him the 50th WWE Champion and the first wrestler of Indian descent to win the title.

For a bit of background on this event, Night of Champions took over as the June pay-per-view event in 2008 after they decided to drop the Vengeance name that themed the same name in 2007 with Vengeance: Night of Champions. In 2009 and 2010, it was moved back to July then September.

In 2016, Night of Champions was replaced on the PPV schedule by Clash of Champions. Keep in mind that the concept of Clash of Champions is similar, it is not a direct continuation of Night of Champions.

The Clash Of Champions pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts at the TD Garden and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.

This will be an exclusive SmackDown Live brand event. Here are the top matches being advertised for upcoming live events that will likely culminate at Clash of Champions:

---- Singles Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn

---- Tag Team Title Match: The New Day vs. The Usos

---- Singles Match: Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler

---- Singles Match: Baron Corbin vs. Tye Dillinger
