Gary Lineker would never have guessed how much calling Karim Benzema 'overrated' would come back to bite him.The BBC and BT Sport presenter labeled the French striker as somewhat mediocre after Tottenham secured a hard fought 1-1 draw the Bernabeu two weeks ago.Benzema has struggled all season for Los Blancos with just two goals in ten appearances with his nondescript Champions League typifying his frustrations.Of all days, too, ahead of Real's visit to Wembley and a rematch with Tottenham, Benzema took the decision to respond. He explained: "What I have more of a problem accepting is the criticism of former players-turned-journalists, who -- some of them -- spread their hate."They have gone through the same difficulties, but they have no solidarity. I feel sorry for them, really."Furthermore, Zinedine Zidane had also taken a hit at the Englishman, stating: "I don't like it when people speak badly of my players, and I want to clarify again that for me Karim is the best [striker] by far."He wasn't exactly going to win over the haters then, when his side went 2-0 down to Tottenham with Dele Alli providing both goals. And with the second - a deflected strike past Kiko Casilla - giving the home team plenty of security, Lineker took the opportunity to pounce on Twitter and he knocked it out the park.Take a look below:

And Twitter absolutely loved it:

It would be pretty savage sarcasm if Benzema was taking residence on the bench but it carries extra weight when you consider the 29-year-old is on the pitch.

With the score making painful reading for Los Blancos, too, it's hard to argue.
