Kevin De Bruyne breaks down Pep Guardiola's tactics with Jamie Redknapp

Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Carabao Cup Fourth Round

If the Premier League Player of the Year award had to be handed out today, many fans and pundits would hand it to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian has been immense for the Citizens this season, providing nine assists in all competitions and becoming a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s side.

His impressive displays led to reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain, but De Bruyne spoke of his desire to stay at the Etihad Stadium in a recent interview with Jamie Redknapp.

“Since Pep came to the club, he plays a style of football I like to play, so it makes it easy as a player,” De Bruyne said.

“I like it here, it is the perfect environment and since I came here there has been a lot of trust in me. I like the project they are doing from the moment I came here.

“There was an older team (when I first arrived), they did a lot of transfers, a lot of young people, they are building for the future... I am really happy here and I see myself being a long time here.”

That will come as music to the ears of Man City supporters. De Bruyne is 26-years-old and the only way is up under the tutelage of Guardiola.

The Belgium international has been a key reason for City’s unbeaten start to the season and he will hope to continue that streak when Arsenal visit on Sunday.

De Bruyne breaks down Guardiola's tactics

De Bruyne has been discussing Guardiola’s tactics ahead of the match.

It’s always interesting to watch a knowledgable footballer breaking down tactics and De Bruyne’s appearance alongside Redknapp in Sky’s Match Zone makes for captivating viewing.

“It’s possession with a meaning,” De Bruyne says about Guardiola’s style of play.

“He hates the word 'possession' where you just play it at the back with a goalkeeper.

“There is always a passing game to get me and David (Silva) into positions where we can create an attack. Then we need to go forward and be decisive.

“Pep does not like it where you just pass it to pass it. Only at the end to kill games off. For the rest, there is really something behind it.”
