UFC 217 is already going down as one of the best UFC pay-per-views in the promotion's history after the event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night crowned three new champions.
T.J. Dillashaw defeated Cody Garbrandt via knockout in the second round of their contest, winning the UFC Bantamweight Championship in the process. Rose Namajunas won the UFC Women's Strawweight title as well against the previously undefeated fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk's with a first-round TKO.
However, the shock of the night has to go to Georges St-Pierre who was making his return to the Octagon after four years away in the main event of UFC 217 in a UFC Middleweight title fight against Michael Bisping.
The Canadian icon defeated the British fighter in the third round of their contest with a rear-naked choke technical submission to become the new UFC Middleweight Champion.
This win made Rush the fourth person in UFC history to become a champion in multiple divisions alongside Randy Coutre, BJ Penn, and Conor McGregor.
This was also GSP's first win since he vacated the UFC Welterweight title in November 2013 after defeating Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC 167. His performance on the night also earned him the Performance of the Night bonus.
UFC 217 certainly was a shocking night, and Twitter couldn't believe what they had witnessed happen in the UFC Middleweight Title fight in the middle of the Octagon.
After this unexpected win, GSP will likely go on to unify the UFC Middleweight Championship with the interim UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker at a later date, while Bisping isn't retiring just yet, as he wants one more fight at a UFC event in the United Kingdom, most likely at UFC Fight Night 127 which will take place on March 17, 2018.
