Jose Mourinho was denied a victorious return to Stamford Bridge as Manchester United went down 1-0 to Chelsea. With Manchester City having beaten Arsenal 3-1 earlier in the day, the big worry for the Portuguese is that his men are now eight points behind their rivals in the race for the title. What's even more alarming is that since taking over in 2016, he has seen United score just once away from home against a top six side. That's one goal in eight games - pretty atrocious. To add to the drama in west London, it's been a tense couple of weeks between Mourinho and Antonio Conte, with both managers trading jibes at each other in their recent press conferences. At the final whistle, the Blues boss then declined to shake hands with his counterpart.Conte will be the happier man, however, as Alvaro Morata got the only goal of the game to keep his side within touching distance of Spurs in third.Ironically, the former Real Madrid striker came close to joining United in the summer. Instead, they signed Romelu Lukaku, who once again struggled to make an impact against a top-four side.Every player has an off day now and again, and the Belgian made such a big impact in his first couple of months that United fans will be willing to forgive his performance. It's also fair to say there was little to no service going into the box.Henrikh Mkhitaryan has to bear a lot of responsibility for that. For many of the supporters, it seems this was one poor display too many.

Mkhi disappoints again

The 28-year-old was sidelined by Mourinho at the start of his first season at Old Trafford, but he's since been playing a major role in his plans - and judging by some of the reaction on Twitter, the fans are questioning why that is.

In the Mirror's player ratings, they handed the Armenian a four, summing up his performance: "Was awful. Completely anonymous. Again. Amazed he gets picked on this form."

Carragher was unimpressed

Jamie Carragher was equally brutal in his analysis on Sky Sports.

“I thought Manchester United may as well have played with 10 men, with Mkhitaryan in that midfield,” he said.

“There was so much space for Chelsea.”

That's a damning assessment of the one-time Bundesliga Player of the Year and Mourinho must be giving his next team selection after the international break some serious thought.
