It's hard to imagine Tom Brady playing quarterback for anybody else in the NFL other than the New England Patriots because of the history he has created with that franchise.Since he was drafted by the team in the sixth round of the 2000 draft, Brady has gone on to become arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, winning five Super Bowls, four Super Bowl MVP awards and two league MVPs.He is the main reason why the Patriots are the team which they are today, and surprisingly, one team in the NFL tried to bring all of that to an end during the NFL offseason just gone.According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch reportedly inquired about trading for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo during the offseason, but this request was denied by Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.In response to this, Lynch did a move which would be described by many as bold and unthinkable, as he asked Belichick if he would be interested in trading away Brady. Unsurprisingly, the Patriots opted not to trade away arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL.Glazer provided the full story during Fox Sports' NFL coverage on Sunday as you can see in the video below.
As we saw last week on trade deadline day, the 49ers got the quarterback they initially wanted in the end, as Garoppolo was traded to San Francisco in exchange for their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. You can't blame Lynch for trying to get Brady though.
If the 40-year-old was traded to the 49ers, it would have been a bit of a homecoming for the quarterback, as he grew up in the California area as a fan of the San Francisco franchise. He has mentioned in the past as well that Joe Montana is one of his idols and one of his inspirations.
The 49ers might be looking to unleash Garoppolo soon as they are yet to win a game this season after nine games played. He could get his first start against the New York Giants next Sunday.
As for the Patriots, following a shaky start, Brady has managed to steady the ship, winning their last four games. With a 6-2 record on the year, they will look to extend their winning streak to five when they play against the Denver Broncos this weekend.
