One of the most shocking title changes in WWE history went down earlier today (Tues. November 7, 2017) in Manchester, England during SmackDown Live's tapings for tonight's episode that will air on USA Network.

AJ Styles challenged Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship in the night's main event, and to many WWE fans' surprise, "The Phenomenal One" actually defeated "The Modern Day Maharaja" to win his second career WWE Championship.

It's extremely rare for the WWE Title to change hands on live TV, let alone a taping that won't air for several hours.

Originally Styles was scheduled to take on Rusev in a Survivor Series qualifying match, however, Styles instead challenged Mahal for the WWE Title and wound up victorious in the end. In one of the top matches at Survivor Series, the WWE Champion is set to take on the Universal Champion.

Fans were expecting to see Brock Lesnar vs. Jinder Mahal at the event, but now they will see AJ Styles take his shot at slaying "The Beast." WWE had this to say about the title change earlier today:

"New champion crowned at SmackDown LIVE in U.K.

"AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to capture the WWE Championship at SmackDown LIVE in Manchester, U.K., WWE.com can confirm.

"This marks The Phenomenal One's second reign as WWE Champion, and it is also the first time in history that the WWE Championship has changed hands outside of North America.

"Find out how it all went down and how it affects the battle for brand supremacy at Survivor Series by tuning into SmackDown LIVE tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network.""
