The CIES Football Observatory have released some very interesting data on squad values in their most recent weekly post.

In recent years, the transfer market has gone insane and the madness reached its current peak when Neymar left Barcelona for PSG in a €222m deal this summer.

Barcelona had included the huge release clause in Neymar's 2016 contract but never expected it to be triggered the following summer.

The 25-year-old Brazilian was joined by Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe but PSG's squad value is probably not as high as many might expect.

The CIES study on transfer values highlighted some very interesting things, such as how dominant the Premier League are in the market.

"Transfer values are estimated on the basis of the algorithm exclusively developed by the CIES Football Observatory research team."

Premier League clubs dominate

The lucrative £5bn TV deal has undoubtedly made English clubs the wealthiest in the world.

Running away at the top of the Premier League table, Manchester City also top the CIES list and Pep Guardiola's current squad have a jaw-dropping total transfer value of almost €1.2 billion.

Four of the top five most valuable clubs are English - whilst Arsenal are all the way down in 12th.

That is likely due to the plummeting value of key duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who will both be able to leave as free agents next summer.

Below are the top 10 - Manchester City, Tottenham, Barcelona and Chelsea have passed the €1bn mark. Check out the full list on the CIES Football Observatory website.

Despite their limited wage structure, Tottenham's surprisingly high value can be put down to their vast array of young world class talent - Harry Kane is considered the most valuable Premier League player at €186m.

The likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld are all sure to have seen their value sky-rocket over the past couple of seasons.

Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku is the second most valuable Premier League player behind Kane.
