On Wednesday, WWE fans received the surprising news that SmackDown Live superstars Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had been sent home by the company and they will not be making any more European tour appearances.

Both Owens and Zayn worked on Tuesday night's SmackDown and were part of a segment with Shane McMahon and The New Day with The Underdog from the Underground having a match with New Day's Kofi Kingston.

However, WWE announced a day later that they had made the shock decision to send the two Canadians home, but they didn't offer an explanation as to why.

The reason as to why Owens and Zayn have been sent home by the WWE has since been revealed by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet.

According to Satin, the two best friends were supposed to “feed” for New Day following Zayn vs Kingston yesterday, in order to make them look strong for their speculated match against The Shield at Survivor Series, but for some reason, they didn’t follow directions and they left the ring instead.

As you saw on SmackDown on Tuesday night, The Prizefighter ran to the ring as soon as the match concluded and attacked Kofi as planned. However, he and Sami then quickly bailed from the ring while The New Day waited for them to attack, as did the sound crew who didn’t play anyone’s music.

The segment ended awkwardly when the two wrestlers seemingly went off script by not taking their planned beating afterward. Reports have stated as well that the Canadians have been slightly difficult to work with lately and seem unhappy backstage.

It's also worth noting that the two were good friends with Neville (who hasn't been seen in weeks due to creative problems) and Jimmy Jacobs (who was recently fired from WWE). Owens and Zayn reportedly blurted out their frustrations on the heel's tour bus, which lead to WWE sending them home.

What this means for Sami and Kevin moving forward remains to be seen, but it could result in their push being ended abruptly, as we have seen with other superstars causing problems in the past by going against the script.

The two, however, are arguably the best two heels in the WWE today though and have been one of the main draws to SmackDown in recent months, so the company may not go to this extreme. We'll just have to wait and see how WWE presents these two superstars on SmackDown over the next couple of weeks.
