A few weeks into the Premier League season, everything was looking good at Manchester United.
Comfortable wins against West Ham, Swansea and Leicester without conceding a goal saw them top the Premier League as August turned to September.
Even Jose Mourinho - who has never lasted more than three years at any club - hinted at a very long spell in charge of the club.
“I am ready for this. I am ready for the next 15 years, I would say. Here? Yes, why not?” Mourinho told ESPN.
A few months later, and things aren’t looking quite as positive at the Theatre of Dreams.
United have dropped eight points behind Manchester City in the table and the future of the Portuguese boss has been questioned.
The Sun are claiming that Mourinho could be tempted by an offer from Paris Saint-Germain with him suddenly becoming unhappy at the club.
While we’re not sure how much truth there is in a possible move to the Parc des Princes, it does seem Mourinho isn’t 100% happy at the Red Devils.
Why Mourinho is unhappy
And ESPN have produced a report detailing exactly why Mourinho is so infuriated at United.
They write: “Sources have told ESPN FC that United should be taking the speculation surrounding Mourinho and PSG seriously and that the French club will look to take advantage of any sign of disharmony between the former Chelsea manager and the Old Trafford hierarchy.”
They claim that it all started with the club’s failure to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan in the summer.
Throughout the summer, Mourinho insisted that he wanted to sign a winger with the Croatian being linked with a big-money move. However, a deal fell through after the two clubs were just £5 million apart in their valuations of the player.
Perisic has since signed a new contract at Inter meaning a future move to United looks extremely unlikely.
While that transfer failure left Mourinho infuriated, he was also ‘exasperated’ during another transfer saga.
United may have signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea in what looks like a very astute signing but Mourinho still wasn’t satisfied.
That’s because the delay in signing the Serb meant he was denied the chance to join the squad in their summer tour of the United States, eventually arriving in August.
It’s believed that haggling over minor details saw the deal delayed weeks, leaving Mourinho angry once again.
So it seems Mourinho certainly isn’t totally happy with everything at United and it perhaps shouldn't be too surprising that this sign of disharmony has seen him linked with leaving the club in the summer.
