Gareth Southgate looks set to hand out a number of England debuts when the Three Lions host Germany at Wembley on Friday night.According to The Sun, Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jordan Pickford are all expected to start in the international friendly. Here's how England's starting XI may look using a 3-5-2 formation:Jordan Pickford; John Stones, Phil Jones, Harry Maguire; Kieran Trippier, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Eric Dier, Jake Livermore, Danny Rose; Jamie Vardy, Tammy Abraham. It's a bold move from Southgate to field such an inexperienced side against Germany, regardless of the fact it's a friendly. But with Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane ruled out of the clash and Gary Cahill struggling with a back injury, England fans have been wondering who will captain the side.Looking at the above starting line-up, it's tough to pinpoint who exactly is best suited to wear the armband.Well, England have now revealed Southgate's choice for skipper on Twitter and it's safe to say not many people are happy about it.In what will be his 22nd England appearance, Tottenham's Eric Dier has been named captain to lead the team out at Wembley. How underwhelming.

Dier is a top-class midfielder for Tottenham, but Southgate's decision to hand him the armband just goes to show how farcical the England captaincy has become.

Since Southgate replaced Sam Allardyce as manager last year, six players have worn the armband: Kane, Henderson, Cahill, Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney.

What ever happened to earning England captaincy? That's the question fans were asking on Twitter upon the announcement.
