Wrestling fans from around the world were shocked last week when Chris Jericho challenged New Japan Pro Wrestling's Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in 2018, his first match outside of the WWE since 1999.

Y2J is booked to take on the IWGP United States champion at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4, 2018, which is essentially NJPW's version of WWE's WrestleMania, with the promotion hyping the match as "Alpha vs. Omega."

The two had been going back and forth on Twitter recently, taking shots at one another to hype up the match before it was even announced, and it appears as though Jericho is going above and beyond to make this match one of the best matches he has had in his career.

In celebration of his 47th birthday, The Ayatollah Of Rock n Rolla posted a photo of himself on Instagram looking in incredible shape in preparation for his upcoming match in January against Omega.

Fans around the world can't wait for Jericho to take on the IWGP United States champion at Wrestle Kingdom 12 and, as you can tell from the photo further down in this article, it looks like the six-time world champion will be bringing his A-game to the highly-anticipated match.

Jericho and Omega are two of the best technical wrestlers in the world, so this match has the potential to be absolutely amazing. More eyes are certainly going to be watching Wrestle Kingdom 12 and NJPW now thanks to Jericho's involvement.

This match will be the first time in years that Y2J has wrestled outside of the WWE. He previously worked for NJPW in 1997 as both himself and, in a one-time appearance, as the masked Super Liger, which was intended to be a heel to the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger.

Many questions have been raised about Jericho's WWE status following the announcement of this match, but rumors have stated he is still under contract with the company and that he received clearance to wrestle at Wrestle Kingdom 12. He is still listed on WWE's website as one of their superstars.

When Jericho will be working for WWE again remains to be seen, but many fans do expect him to wrestle again for the company once more in 2018.
