After a strong start to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign, United now find themselves eight points behind leaders Manchester City after 11 matches.
What isn't helping their title challenge is the blistering pace Pep Guardiola's men are setting, in terms of both results and some quite exceptional performances.

In Kevin de Bruyne, Man City have arguably the best player in the league right now, and they are averaging a ridiculous 3.45 goals per game.
Despite City's form, Romelu Lukaku thinks that there is one Man United player who will be vital in helping them to close the gap on their noisy neighbours.
Lukaku: The player that will help us chase City
According to the big Belgian, the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic will help the Red Devils chase down Man City in the race to be crowned Premier League champions.
Like Lukaku this season, Ibra was an ever-present in Jose Mourinho's starting XI last term before cruciate knee ligament damage brought his first campaign in England to an abrupt end.
The 36-year-old, who could be back before 2017 ends, will provide fresh competition for Lukaku, but the latter thinks the pair can work together to overcome Man City's dominance.
"It (Ibrahimovic's return) motivates me really, because he's another good player to add to the squad," Lukaku told Sky Sports News.
"When you face a team like us, it's difficult for opponents. Ibrahimovic coming back will help us chase Manchester City."
Does Lukaku need help?
After moving to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer for an initial £75 million, Lukaku hit the ground running early and was on the scoresheet in nearly every United game.
In total, he's scored 11 goals in 17 matches for his new club, however he has now gone seven matches for Man Utd without a goal.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling of late, Ibrahimovic, who scored 28 goals last season, will help take the goalscoring burden off of Lukaku's shoulders.
Lukaku scored twice in Belgium's draw with Mexico on Friday, and some United fans are calling for Ibra to play behind him as a number ten when he makes his long-awaited return.
