Overlooked by France coach Didier Deschamps yet again, Karim Benzema starred in a new documentary about his life on TV station Canal Plus on Sunday night.

The Real Madrid striker has not featured for Les Bleus since he played a starring role with two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Armenia in October 2015.

Benzema is desperate to get his chance before the 2018 World Cup and is hoping the French supporters will put the pressure on Deschamps to pick him.

The 29-year-old has only managed one La Liga goal this season and will certainly have to improve his goalscoring record if he is to convince Deschamps to change his mind.

"It doesn't annoy me [the debates about Benzema]," said the French coach last week. "It's part of the media landscape. You are free to do whatever you want, whenever you want. It's not something that will change my mind or change my ideas about the French team."

Barcelona legend Leo Messi is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all-time.

The 30-year-old Argentine superstar has begun the 2017/18 season in blistering form and single-handedly booked his nation's spot at next summer's World Cup.

Messi is the star player at Benzema's biggest rivals but the French striker obviously appreciates the brilliance of the man.

Benzema names player with Messi's talent

It's widely accepted that only a handful of professional footballers were born with anything close to the talent that Messi was given.

Benzema named a surprise PSG player as a man he believes has the same level of talent as the legendary Barcelona forward.

"Ben Arfa has talent at [Lionel] Messi's level," said Benzema. "I am not fooling around. It hurts me to see his current situation at PSG."

The 30-year-old former Newcastle and Nice winger has been frozen out at PSG and has not played a competitive match since April.

In the summer of 2004, Ben Arfa and Benzema were part of the France side that beat their Spanish counterparts (among them Cesc Fabregas and Gerard Pique) in the final of the U17 European Championship.
