The Nexus had one of the most memorable debuts of any faction in professional wrestling history, so you can bet Vince McMahon had something to say to the group before they went out to lay waste to the set of Monday Night RAW.

The group was made up of notable names such as Ryback, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, and Daniel Bryan. The men were selected off of a season of Tough Enough. Although it was Wade Barrett who won the show; he lead a team of his fellow cast mates to run rampant through Monday Night RAW and attacked CM Punk and John Cena during their match-up with one another before proceeding to attack announcers, commentators, and completely destroying everything in sight.

Today only Otunga, Bryan, and Slater remain with the company in different roles. Otunga appears as a commentator and often takes part in pre-show panels, Daniel Bryan is the General Manager of SmackDown Live, and Slater is a part of the RAW roster.

Slater was recently interviewed by Wrestling Inc. to promote the opening of his new wrestling school, in Atlanta: Face 2 Face Wrestling. During the interview Slater revealed what Vince McMahon had to say to The Nexus before making their debut.

At first Slater believed that they were going to be fired, but McMahon instead laid out his plans to unite them and have them destroy RAW (quotes via IWNerd):

“Nope. We all thought we were getting fired. You’re talking about one of those things, we had gotten there and waited around and had no idea what was going on.

"We were just blinded until we went to Vince McMahon’s office and he pretty much told us that we were going to be a stable, every one of us, and we are a young talent that is just going to go in there and destroy everything.

"We were all looking around at each other like what the hell is he talking about right now? He said that he wants us to destroy everybody in the ring, destroy the ring and everything.

"Pretty much in there a bomb had gone off, and here we were. We went down there and beat the hell out of everyone; including the announcers and refs and whoever we saw, and we had fun doing it.

"We had so much fun doing it, and my gosh people hated us. You had your rebel crowds were they loved the bad guys, but my gosh, I was getting food and treats being thrown at me, it was like, man, they hated us.”
