Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is trying to forget about emulating Peter Osgood's record of scoring in every round of the FA Cup.

Sturridge hit a double against Watford and scored against Preston in the fourth round before grabbing Chelsea's third in the 4-1 demolition of Cardiff on Saturday.

"Someone told me about it on Friday and I was thinking I don't need that pressure," said Sturridge. "I always want to score goals and want the team to win but I am not looking at the record. If I see someone in a better position then I am going to pass to them."

He added: "It has been a good run for me and we are progressing in the tournament. Cardiff worked very hard as a team and it was hard for us to break them down, but as time went on quality shone through. We were working hard and in the end we got our rewards.

"It was a different position for me. I was out on the left whereas in the other two games I was in the middle.

"In the Preston game I was also on the right and behind the striker, so I am learning my trade."

Chelsea's fourth goal against Cardiff was scored by substitute Salomon Kalou, who has struggled to get back into the side since his return from the African Nations Cup.

But he is hoping his superb diving header will enhance his chances of a return to Carlo Ancelotti's first team.

"I haven't been playing lately and to get in the team and score a goal is very important for my confidence," insisted Kalou. "You can build a lot of confidence for the next game from it.

"That is how you win prizes. You need to have a strong bench, people who can come on and turn a game around."
