Manchester United already have a job on their hands to catch local rivals Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Jose Mourinho’s side slipped eight points behind the league leaders following their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea before the international break.

Pep Guardiola’s men, meanwhile, are yet to lose a match this season and are currently 1/6 on with the bookmakers to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the campaign.

But there’s still a long way to go and Mourinho has no intention on giving up on the title race just yet.

According to the Independent, the Portuguese coach wants to bring Valencia’s Carlos Soler to Old Trafford when the transfer window re-opens next month.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been magnificent for Los Che this season and would, according to the report, cost around £40 million to sign.

As well as catching the eye of Mourinho, Soler has also impressed other members of United’s backroom team since making his Valencia debut last year.

One part of the report is concerning United fans

However, there’s one line in the Independent’s report that has concerned United’s supporters.

Miguel Delaney, the journalist responsible for the story, writes: “United have also considered the possibility of offering Andreas Pereira - who is currently thriving on loan at Valencia - plus cash for Soler.”

Pereira is currently on a season-long loan from United at the Mestalla and has played regularly under Marcelino, making an impact for the team who currently sit second in the La Liga table.

What United fans have been tweeting about the report

And United fans on Twitter are now deeply concerned that Mourinho will offload the talented 21-year-old in order to make room for Soler.
