On Thursday afternoon, Borussia Dortmund published a rather unexpected tweet, detailing that they had suspended the club's star striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international will now miss their crucial Bundesliga tie against Stuttgart on the weekend, a game which Peter Bosz's side simply have to win to keep pace with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. But, they will have to do so without their talisman, with former Chelsea man Andre Schurrle likely to be drafted in to play as a makeshift centre-forward.

DORTMUND'S TWEET

Aubameyang has enjoyed a mixed start to the 2017/18 campaign and is goalless in his last five matches in all competitions.

But, he has still managed 10 goals in 11 Bundesliga games, a record which most strikers wouldn't mind having in one of Europe's top five leagues.

AUBA NO STRANGER TO CONTROVERSY

Back in November 2016, the 28-year-old was suspended by Dortmund for their Champions League tie with Sporting Lisbon.

This was also due to 'internal reasons' and now, it seems he's been up to his old tricks again.

THE REASON THIS TIME

According to trusted German source BILD, the reason for the action taken by Dortmund is due to Aubameyang taking a trip to see his former teammates Ousmane Dembele in Barcelona.

However, his two day vacation had not been scheduled with the club, meaning that they have had to take action.

It does seem a bit of a trivial reason to suspend a player, but, his absence probably had an impact on their preparation for Friday night's game.

To be honest, the club probably aren't happy with his seeing a player who left them on such acrimonious terms in the summer.

If you remember, Dembele was actually suspended by Dortmund for trying to force through a move to Barca, something which he eventually got in the end.

Probably some bad blood still there.
