Arsenal supporters are still riding the crest of a wave following their unexpected 2-0 victory over fierce local rivals Tottenham on Saturday.
A power shift has occurred in north London since Mauricio Pochettino took the reins at Spurs in 2014, but Arsene Wenger’s side proved they’re still a force to be reckoned with thanks to two first-half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez.
That result means Arsenal close the gap on fourth-place Spurs to just a point - and the Gunners faithful now believe that a top-four finish is obtainable again following a disappointing start to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
However, Arsenal have a run of tough-looking fixtures on the horizon, including a trip to Burnley next weekend and a home game against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on December 2.
Whether Saturday’s impressive team performance was a one-off or the start of something special remains to be seen.
Jack Wilshere has now tweeted
Various Arsenal players have posted celebratory messages on social media over the past 24 hours and now Jack Wilshere has tweeted.
The midfielder was an unused substitute against Spurs but has still taken the opportunity to gloat about the victory.
“Every real gooner woke up with a big fat smile on thier face 😁 i certainly did!” Wilshere tweeted. “Electric atmosphere in the Emirates yesterday. That win was for you #NorthLondonIsRed”
North London is red, eh? Well, Jack, it might be worth having a quick look at the Premier League table.
Arsenal fans are loving Wilshere's tweet
Needless to say, Arsenal fans are loving Wilshere’s tweet…
They also took the opportunity to have a few digs at Harry Kane...
Tottenham fans not so much...
However, there are a few disgruntled Spurs fans who have taken the bait…
Wilshere could leave Arsenal in January
There’s a chance that Wilshere is now in his final weeks as an Arsenal player.
Recent reports have suggested that Real Betis want to sign the 25-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Joining Betis would allow him to play every week and this, in turn, would enhance his chances of making the England squad for next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.
So don’t be too surprised if it actually happens.
