Fernando Alonso is tipping Lewis Hamilton to further title success in next year's Formula One season.

Brit Hamilton claimed his fourth Drivers' Championship title at the Mexican Grand Prix last month, and he will by eyeing another victory in Abu Dhabi next Sunday, which is the last race of the calendar year.

Spaniard Alonso, now aged 36, feels that the Mercedes driver will be a challenge to stop when Formula One returns for the new season next year, and he feels Hamilton will only go on and get better.

In an interview with Sky Germany, Alonso outlined his predictions to see Hamilton succeed in 2018, as the 32-year-old will seek more records which could be surpassed.

Alonso said: "Lewis (Hamilton) is the World Champion now, he is one of the greatest. He has won four titles now, it is true that Mercedes are in a very dominant car that dominate the Championship.

"I consider him one of the greatest. When he was at McLaren in difficult times in 2009 and 2011, he was still performing supreme and he was still winning races in some cars that were not in positions to win races.

"He deserves the success, even if he is in a dominant car, because he was always at the top of his level."

However, Alonso didn't back Hamilton to win yet another Drivers' Championship, as he believes next year will be his year.

Yes, you read that.

Alonso, who has continued to drive for McLaren Honda this season, is 15th in the Drivers' Championship standings, in a year which also saw him try his hands at Indy 500 back in May, competing on the famous Indianapolis circuit before returning to the Formula One scene.

And, the Oviedo driver is confident that he could spring a few surprises along the way.

"We are very optimistic that next year will be our year to come back to the top.

"I want to still enjoy Motorsport, to enjoy racing, to fight and not be afraid."
