Manchester United are set to rival Liverpool and Arsenal for Lille defender Adil Rami.

Rami has been a long time target of Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez but Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to snatch the defender from under the noses of their rivals.

Benitez has reportedly had scouts track Rami at Lille matches for most of the year but is yet to follow up his interest in the 24-year-old.

Manchester United have struggled this season at the back with key defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidić, and Jonny Evans all spending sufficient time on the sidelines with injuries.

The Red Devils boss has outlined Rami as a possible summer transfer target as he looks to strengthen his rearguard.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also been interested in the Frenchman as looks for a replacement for veteran Sol Campbell in the summer.

The defender has made over 70 appearances for Lille scoring seven goals so far. Rami has also been called up to the France national team but is yet to make an appearance.
