Gary Neville names the four past Premier League sides greater than Guardiola's Man City

Manchester City's charge towards the title shows absolutely no signs of stopping.

Pep Guardiola's men were underwhelming last season, with the Spaniard flattering to deceive in his first season in English football.

To rectify the situation, the former Barcelona manager decided to spend over £200 million in the summer, and his ambition in the transfer market has seemingly paid off.

Man City's 4-0 destruction of Bournemouth on Saturday was their 17th Premier League win in a row, something that has never been done before in England's top flight.

That means they now enjoy a 13-point gap over second place Manchester United, the biggest gap at the top of the table on December 25 in English top-flight history.

Guardiola's side continue to smash record after record, and his team's dominance has led to many football fans believing that they are the greatest side the Premier League has ever seen.

And given their form so far this season, that's a very hard statement to disagree with.

Manchester City have received many plaudits, but Gary Neville has claimed that Guardiola's men cannot be considered the greatest Premier League team in history for one massive reason.

"Some people are saying City are the greatest side in Premier League history but I wouldn't even engage in that discussion." Neville said.

"You've got to have won Premier League title at least just to enter the debate and this Guardiola side haven't done that yet.

"You have got to win two or three domestic titles to be seen as a great team of an era. If they are a one-season wonder, if they win the league this year and then don't win it in the next couple of years, I wouldn't see that as a great side. I'd see that as a team that's had a great season."

As a result, Neville thinks that this current Manchester City side are not as great as some teams in the past, such as Man United under Sir Alex Ferguson and Chelsea in the mid 2000s.

"But a great side is what United did in the 90s and 2000s: win multiple trophies and European Cups. United had three great sides in the Ferguson era, the '94 Double team, the '99 Treble team and the 2008 team. They were great sides that have achieved far more than this Man City team have done to date.

"The Mourinho Chelsea side of 2004-06 were a great side as well. They won two titles on the bounce. City have got a long way to go yet. I don't think even Guardiola would tell you they're a great side because he has managed great sides."

It might be an extremely unpopular opinion and some may accuse Neville of bias, but it is very hard to dispute his reasoning.
