No matter what Jose Mourinho and Manchester United do in the January transfer window, it seems very unlikely they will catching Manchester City this season.

The Red Devils entered Christmas a massive 13 points behind their rivals and their titles ambitions are pretty much over.

But Mourinho will never concede the league title and will do everything in his power to do the unthinkable and overhaul Pep Guardiola’s side.

And with the transfer window re-opening next week, it seems ‘The Special One’ wants to spend a bit more money in an attempt to cut the gap.

And, according to Goal, he’s already set his sights on one player in particular.

They claim that United will make an opening bid of around £40 million for Bordeaux forward Malcom.

It's stated that Mourinho is a “big admirer” of the 20-year-old and has sanctioned a move for the wonderkid.

Goal also write: “United boss Jose Mourinho regards the Brazilian as the best young prospect in Europe and will urge Ed Woodward, the club's executive vice chairman, to broker a deal in January.”

‘Who?’ Some of you might be asking.

Well, Malcom has a very big reputation in France and his native Brazil and is tipped to go on to become a world-class player.

And to prove just that, here is his compilation video on YouTube showing exactly what he can do:

Yeah, he looks pretty special.

However, it’s believed that if a deal does go through, he will remain at the French club for the rest of the season.

But Bordeaux are unlikely to accept the £40 million being offered by United - with them wanting more than £55 million for the player that has already scored seven goals in 18 matches this season.

But with club president Stephane Martin adamant that the youngster won’t leave this winter, United are happy to loan him back to Bordeaux for the remainder of the campaign.

Finally, Goal claim that Arsenal are also interested in the Brazilian although “they are yet to have made any contact with Bordeaux.”
