Chelsea stuck their necks out this summer when they sign Tiemoue Bakayoko and allowed Nemanja Matic to join Manchester United, and the jury is still out.

The ex-Monaco man hasn't exactly flopped at Stamford Bridge but persists to frustrated a large contingent of Chelsea fans with almost every game he appears in.

Obviously, the Frenchman is still only four months deep into his Chelsea career and it can take time for players to settle in the Premier League yet time is of the essence in the race for the top four.

Nevertheless, the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion to west London looked an easier, albeit tricky, task for the 23-year-old to display his ability this weekend.

Bakayoko has often been overwhelmed in the bigger matches and physical clashes such as the West Ham defeat, but took to a ruthless Chelsea side on Saturday.

The Blues couldn't break down the Seagulls in the first-half, only for the floodgates to open after the break.

The seemingly telepathic connection between Cesar Azpilicueta and Alvaro Morata flourished once again, breaking the deadlock in the 46th minute before Marcos Alonso doubled the advantage.

It could have been much more, though, if none other than Bakayoko had his shooting boots on.

The Frenchman tried his luck from long range in the opening 45 minutes to no avail and had was given a superb opportunity by Eden Hazard in the 68th minute.

To say the shot was poor, would be putting it mildly and it seemed to settle things for some supporters.

Check out the miss and reaction:

It's worth nothing that Bakayoko has found the net on three occasions this season, while Matic is yet to score, but there's no doubting that it's an area of improvement for the Frenchman.

If nothing else, though, he needs to stop giving fans an excuse to prolong the justify doubts and negativity.
