Despite running down his contract in north London, German playmaker Mesut Ozil is a fan favourite amongst Arsenal supporters. The German superstar has just six months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and could leave as a free agent in the summer.Ozil joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 for £42.5m and has won three FA Cup's under Arsene Wenger's guidance."He [Ozil] is mature," said Wenger earlier in December. "He guides the team, they are aware he is a lot on the ball. Always your heart rate goes down when he has the ball."Alexis Sanchez is also out of contract in the summer, and while most assume the 29-year-old Chilean will be heading for the exit, Wenger is still holding out hope that Ozil can be convinced to sign a new deal."I believe he [Ozil] wants to stay," Wenger said. "I wouldn't like to compare [Ozil and Sanchez]. You want nobody to leave and see where we stand on that. But at the moment it is very difficult to say."Until the end of the season we know what is, but after that I cannot tell you."Ozil played 90 minutes of Thursday night's 3-2 win over Crystal Palace but Gooners on social media were all talking about what he did in the warm-up.Heading back towards the dressing room, Danny Welbeck could be seen doing everything in his power not to be nutmegged by his creative teammate.Ozil proved just how creative he is, managing to execute an outrageous nutmeg via a billboard.Ozil and Welbeck's reaction was worth 1000 words - and Arsenal fans on Twitter absolutely loved it too.

Gooners would love nothing more than for Ozil to sign a new contract.

Linked heavily with a move to Manchester United, the 29-year-old World Cup winner has been in excellent form this season and is expected to be in the starting XI when Wenger's side visit West Brom on Sunday.

Arsenal lie 6th in the Premier League table but are just one point off 4th placed Liverpool.
