WWE hasn't done the Slammy Awards for many years now. Instead, they've opted for a more simpler approach to recognizing their superstar's performances from over the year by posting articles and polls about different subjects on their website.

WWE has produced articles over the past few weeks commemorating the year such as 25 of the best matches of 2017, Top 10 mic moments of 2017, 10 of the most shocking moments of 2017, six records which were broken in 2017, and much more in their polls.

Recently, the company posted a list of the 10 Superstars who defined 2017, which is essentially their top 10 superstars of 2017. Let's take a look and see who they've ranked as the top 10 superstars that owned the year.

Number 10 to Number 6

  • 10. Enzo Amore - won the Cruiserweight Championship twice
  • 9. Brock Lesnar - undisputed Universal Champion
  • 8. The Shield - won titles upon their reformation (Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose Tag Team titles, Roman Reigns Reigns Intercontinental title)
  • 7. Kevin Owens - Universal title and United States title reigns, Shane McMahon/AJ Styles feuds
  • 6. The Miz - Intercontinental Championship reign, great feuds with Reigns/John Cena

5. Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal was always going to be on this list after he was crowned WWE Champion after defeating Randy Orton for the title at Backlash. The Modern Day Maharaja then won against The Viper in two rematches, survived a Money in the Bank contract cash-in from Baron Corbin, and twice defeated Shinsuke Nakamura.

His WWE title reign came to an end after he lost to AJ Styles on the November 7 episode of SmackDown Live, ending his reign at 170 days. Mahal has done well in 2017, but most people will remember his WWE title reign as just a ploy by WWE to try and boost their market in India.

4. Tie - The Usos and The New Day

Throughout the duration of 2017, these two tag teams had fantastic matches while fighting over the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, so it would be unfair to have one position higher than the other in terms of owning the year.

Their battle inside the cell at Hell in a Cell arguably defined their year, as it truly set the bar for tag teams in the WWE. From the looks of things as well, the clashes between these two teams may continue into 2018, which can only mean good things for WWE fans.

3. Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss is the only female on the list, which is surprising especially when you consider what Charlotte has managed to do this year. However, Bliss does stand out above the rest of the women's division.

The four-time women’s champion earned three of her four title reigns in 2017 alone, becoming the first ever woman to win both the Raw and SmackDown women’s titles. There wasn’t a month in 2017 where Little Miss Bliss wasn’t carrying a title around her waist either.

2. Braun Strowman

Although he never won a title in 2017, the moments which Braun Strowman has created and the matches which he has put on means he is definitely deserving of being second on this list. With the way he is going as a superstar, it shouldn't be long until he is on the top of the list.

From his highlight feud against Roman Reigns where he flipped over an ambulance, to his epic clashes with Brock Lesnar for the Universal title, The Monster Among Men has definitely been the Breakout Star of the Year in 2017 in the WWE, and hopefully, it won't be too long until he wins his first WWE title.

1. AJ Styles

AJ Styles started the year as WWE Champion with arguably the Match of the Year against John Cena at the Royal Rumble, and then ended the year recapturing the title against Jinder Mahal, showing that he truly is phenomenal.

No matter who the opponent has been, whether it be Cena, Mahal, Brock Lesnar, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin, or Shane McMahon, The Phenomenal One has always put on incredible matches and that trend should continue into 2018 as well.
