It's safe to say this season has turned into a disaster for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

After registering five assists and a goal in the first five games of the Premier League season, he is yet to add another to either tally since.

Mkhitaryan has also fallen completely out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho, and despite being signed for £30m by him last summer, the Armenian hasn't started a league game since November 5.

In fact, he hasn't even made the subsitutes' bench in six of the nine games since that 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, which shows how far down the pecking order he is at Old Trafford.

He has appeared in the other three games, though that only totals 71 minutes of action, which is hardly enough to help build his shattered confidence.

Mourinho revealed that his absence was down to poor performance and not a case of injury, and said that he was 'disappearing' in matches.

"I was not happy with his last performances," the Portuguese said in November.

"I’m not speaking about one or two, I’m speaking about three, four or five.

"He started the season very well and after that step by step he was disappearing. His performance levels in terms of goal scoring and assists, high pressing, recovering the ball high up the pitch, bringing the team with him as a No 10, were decreasing step by step. That was enough [to drop him] because the others worked to have a chance."

But now it seems like Mkhitaryan could be offered a route out of Old Trafford, with Sky in Italy reporting that Inter Milan are monitoring his situation.

Inter are third in Serie A, and five points off leaders Napoli, but have failed to win in their last three league games, which has seen them slip off top spot.

As a result, the Italians are keen to strengthen, with Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu and Paris Saint-Germain's Javier Pastore also being looked at.

Mkhitaryan would obviously jump at the chance to leave, with there seemingly no route back for him.

And the chance to help bring the Serie A title back to the San Siro for Inter could help him finally make his mark on European football.
