Bild have absolutely mugged off Liverpool over their plan to sign Schalke's Leon Goretzka

Liverpool appear to be a club on a mission right now.

After sealing the £37m signing of Mohamed Salah - who has been a revelation on Merseyside - the Reds moved to sign RB Leipzig's Naby Keita for around £48m, with the highly-rated midfielder arriving in the summer of 2018.

Then, on Wednesday, it was announced that Liverpool had agreed a whopping £75m deal for Southampton's Virgil van Dijk.

If they can somehow keep Barcelona at bay and retain the services of Philippe Coutinho, they could have a squad capable of competing for all major honours available.

In the summer, Jurgen Klopp and his staff are likely to be very busy and one man who has attracted their interest is Schalke's Leon Goretzka.

The all-action midfielder is seen as the successor to Emre Can and he may even sign a pre-contract in January, as he is in the last year of his deal with the Bundesliga side.

German publication Bild have reported that Goretzka has chosen Anfield as his preferred destination.

But, in their report, they had a real dig at Liverpool, one that if Goretzka were to read it, he may opt for a different suitor.

They wrote: "Great fans, great money and with Klopp also a great coach – so there are some good reasons to go to Liverpool.

"Anyone who chooses Liverpool, however, decides against winning an important title for the foreseeable future."

Ouch, that is a bit brutal.

To be fair, they kind of have a point, with Liverpool having not won a trophy since 2012, which came courtesy of a League Cup final victory over Cardiff, which had to be settled on penalties.

However, Klopp's new-look Liverpool side look like they could challenge for trophies next season, with Van Dijk the defensive general they have been crying out for.

Let's just hope for the club's sake that Goretzka is not an avid reader of Bild...
