What Jack Wilshere did after Sanchez's poor performance v Southampton was class

The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga has been hanging over Arsenal for what seems an eternity now.

The Chilean has clearly wanted to depart Arsenal for a good 12 months or so now and with his contract up in six months, the Gunners have a decision to make.

Do they try and sell the former Barcelona man in the January transfer window, cash-in while they can and reinvest?

Or, do they keep Sanchez at the club in the hope that he will help them qualify for the Champions League and almost certainly lose him for nothing at the end of the season?

Most fans cannot believe Arsenal did not sell to Manchester City on the final day of the summer transfer window when they could have raked in £50 million.

The forward has had a mixed season thus far and despite recording eight goals and three assists in 18 appearances for Arsene Wenger's men, that's some way off the form of last season.

Eyebrows were raised when Sanchez scored what turned out to be a match-winning brace Crystal Palace during the week and only a couple of teammates rushed to celebrate with the 29-year-old.

Of course, Wenger, for the 1,000th time in his career, claimed: "I did not see that."

According to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal dressing room has been frustrated with their superstar forward for weeks now and they want him out of the club.

In fact, following the 1-1 draw with Southampton, lifelong Gooner Jack Wilshere confronted Sanchez about how wasteful he had been in possession.

The same report claims that Sanchez's popularity at Arsenal's London Colney HQ has plummeted in recent months, and some members of the Arsenal squad — and even backroom staff — have had enough of the in-demand Chilean.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal - Premier League

With Sanchez's form and effort a shadow of what it was last season, Arsenal owe it to themselves to try and cash in during the winter transfer window.

If Wenger has not been looking at replacements in the lead up to January, fans will once again ask serious questions about the Frenchman.
